Belice ( ital. Belice ) - the river in the west of the island of Sicily ( Italy ). Length - 77 km [1] . It is formed in Podzhoreal at the confluence of Belice-Destro (originates near the city of Piana degli Albanesi , flows southwest) from Belice-Sinistro (flowing down the slopes of Rocca-Buzambra ), after 30 km it flows into the Sicilian Channel . Nearby is the archaeological site of Selinunte , known in ancient times under the name Hypsas .

The power of the river flow varies greatly depending on the season. A reservoir was built on the river.
History
During the January 1968 earthquake ( Italian: Terremoto del Belice ), the central part of the Belice Valley was damaged, where numerous residential areas, including Gibellina , Montevago and Salaparuta , were destroyed. 370 people died [2] , about 100 thousand were left homeless [3] .
