History

The history of Camarillo Airport begins in 1942 with the creation by the California Highway Authority of an airfield and an airstrip 1,500 meters long, later extended to 2,400 meters. In 1951, the infrastructure built was transformed into the Oxnard Air Force Base.

In subsequent years, the Ventura County authorities took active steps to acquire the property of the former US Department of Defense military bases for further commercial use in civil aviation. For the most part, local residents protested against the work of military airbases within settlements, dissatisfied with the noise level at any time of the day or night. In 1976, the transfer of the infrastructure of the Camarillo Airport to the needs of civil aviation was finally approved subject to a reduction in the length of the runway to 1828 meters and a shift of the runway threshold at one end of the runway. By 1985, the airport was completely given over to the management of the airport Ventura County [5] .
