She worked in the Lviv department of probability theory at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1946 - 1950 ), a senior researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR ( 1950 - 1957 ), and the head of the department of the Institute of Cybernetics of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR (since 1957 ).

Scientific activity

The first scientific research in the field of probability theory and mathematical statistics, Yekaterina Yushchenko conducted in the Lviv department of the Institute of Mathematics under the guidance of academician B.V. Gnedenko .

Since 1954, he has been working in the field of computational mathematics, developing algorithms for MESM , including algorithms for solving external ballistics problems for space-rocket complexes, developing production plans, etc.

Yekaterina Yushchenko becomes the first doctor of physical and mathematical sciences in the USSR to whom this degree was awarded for programming work. She proposed one of the first programming languages in the world - the Address language , whose constructions were included in the composition of modern languages.

Ekaterina Logvinovna was among the authors (with B.V. Gnedenko and V.S. Korolyuk ) of the first textbook on programming in the USSR - the book "Programming Elements", published in 1961 [4] , reprinted in 1964, and also translated : in 1964 in the GDR and Hungary, and in 1969 in France [5] .

Under her leadership and with direct participation, a series of instrumental and technological complexes was created. For work in this industry, she was awarded two State Prizes of Ukraine (State Prizes of the Ukrainian SSR) and the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, and for the theoretical developments in the field of computer algebra - the Glushkov Academic Prize. Also, Yushchenko was awarded the Order of Princess Olga [6] .

E. L. Yushchenko received 5 copyright certificates, she developed 8 State Standards of Ukraine. She is the author of more than 200 scientific works, including 23 monographs and study guides, some of which have been translated and published in Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, France and Denmark.

E. Yushchenko prepared 45 candidates and 11 doctors of sciences.

She was a member of the editorial boards of the journals “Cybernetics and Systems Analysis” and “Problems of Programming”, a member of the Scientific Council on the problem of “Cybernetics” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and a member of the Qualification Council for awarding academic degrees.
