Distribution and Ecology

The birthplace of the plant is the Canary Islands . It was spread by man and naturalized in many subtropical regions of the planet. Currently, this palm tree grows from France in the north to southern Chile in the south. The plant is especially popular in Spain , Portugal , Argentina , Italy , Croatia , Greece , Turkey , in the north of Iran (see Chomal ), in the south and west of France , in the USA (mainly in California and Florida ), in the south of Brazil ( Rio state Grande do Sul ) in Uruguay , Australia , New Zealand and South Africa . In the countries of the former USSR, it grows on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus (in Sochi , Abkhazia and Georgia), the southern coast of Crimea and in the south of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan . In some countries, particularly New Zealand, the plant has become an aggressive weed .

Biological Description

A tree 10-40 m high.

Composite leaves 4-6 m long with 80-100 leaves on the sides of the main rachis .

The fruits are collected in a brush. They are orange in color, oval, 2 cm long and 1 cm wide, inside contain one large seed .
