Biography
From the age of 15, he began working as a mechanic in mines and railways in the cities of Krivoy Rog and Pyatikhatka, Dnipropetrovsk Region .
In 1950 he graduated with honors from two departments - seed production and mechanization - Erastov Agricultural College [1] . In 1955 he graduated with honors from the Department of Selection and Seed Production of the Agronomy Faculty of the Moscow Agricultural Academy. K. A. Timiryazev specializing in agricultural scientist.
In 1955-1958, he was the chief agronomist of the educational-experimental farm. In 1958-1960 - Head of the Yaroslavl Regional Department of Agriculture. In 1960-1962 - First Deputy Chairman of the Yaroslavl Oblast Executive Committee. In 1962-1964 - First Deputy Chairman of the Yaroslavl Oblast Executive Committee and Head of the Regional Department of Agriculture of the Yaroslavl Region.
In 1964-1973, he was a senior lecturer, associate professor, professor, head of the plant growing department of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy . In 1973-1974 - Director of the Belarusian Research Institute of Agriculture .
In 1974-1979 - Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus for Agriculture. In 1979-1984 - Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the USSR. In 1984-1993 - academician-secretary of the All-Union (Russian) Academy of Agricultural Sciences (VASKHNIL-RAAS), head of the Department of Biotechnology, Moscow Agricultural Academy. K. A. Timiryazev [2] .
In 1984-1992, he was a member of the Presidium, academician-secretary of the Department of Plant Growing and Breeding, VASKHNIL. In 1992-1997, he was an academician-secretary of the Department of Plant Growing and Breeding of the RAAS, and since 1997, a member of the Presidium of the RAAS. In 1986-2007 - Head of the Department of Agricultural Biotechnology.
Work in the State Duma and RUSO
In December 1993, he was elected to the State Duma of the first convocation on the list of the Communist Party . He was deputy chairman of the Committee on Education, Culture and Science, a member of the Communist Party faction .
In October 1995, he was included in the federal list of the Communist Party in the State Duma elections . He was elected as a deputy of the State Duma of the second convocation according to the results of voting in the federal district. At the same time, Shevelukha ran for the University single-mandate constituency No. 201 of Moscow, but took second place there after P. G. Bunich . He joined the Communist Party faction . Member of the Committee on Education and Science (Chairman of the Subcommittee on Science).
Member of the Central Executive Committee of the Communist Party (1993-1995), member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (since 1995).
Chairman of the public organization Russian Scientists of Socialist Orientation (RUSO) until 2014. In this post he was replaced by I.I. Nikitchuk .
He died on January 25, 2018 [3] . He was buried at the Vostryakovsky cemetery in Moscow [4] .
Awards and titles
Doctor of Biological Sciences , Professor . Honorary Doctor of the Belarusian Agricultural Academy. The author of six monographs and more than 200 scientific publications.
Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus. In 1996, Shevelukha was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in the field of science and technology for the series of works “Physiological Foundations of Growth, Productivity, Sustainability and Plant Breeding”.
The deprivation of state awards of Ukraine, other forms of celebration, and is prohibited from entering the territory of Ukraine for a period of three years in accordance with the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine of May 2, 2018 [5] .
