When the features of the Greek Artemis joined the purely Italian features of the goddess Diana, the Roman Diana began to be revered as a helper in childbirth, as a representative of the mountain and forest life and, by the way, of the hunt, as the deity of the night, with her mysterious phenomena. In this last meaning, she was also identified with the Greek Hecate , the goddess of night, the underworld and magic. Being the goddess of enchantment and the mysterious horrors of the night, Diana was considered the patroness of crucifixes (from where the epithet is Trivia), and was depicted with three heads, looking at three roads. As the patroness of the roads and travelers, travelers called her under the name of dea Semitalis . Near Aricia there was a lake dedicated to Trivia from a grove, where Trivia was known as Nemorensis. In honor of Trivia and Apollo, Augustus built a marble temple on the Palatine .
