Holiday History
- The date of October 20 for the International Day of Air Traffic Controllers was not chosen by chance. On this day in 1961, the International Federation of Air Traffic Control Associations was created in the capital of the Netherlands, Amsterdam . This event, important for standardizing the management of cargo and passenger air transportation, laid the foundation for a new professional holiday [1] .
The head of the Federal Air Navigation Service, A. V. Neradko, in his congratulations on the occasion of the Day of the air traffic controller, said the following:
Aviation has always attracted people who are talented, smart and courageous, able to courageously overcome difficulties, remain faithful to the profession and continue the traditions of veterans who make up its pride and glory. The sky invisibly connects countries and continents, professional solidarity, mutual assistance and enormous responsibility help us to make it safe and open for peaceful purposes [2] .
.
Today, tens of thousands of air traffic controllers work in the world, who daily, in the literal sense of the word, entrust the lives of over five million people [3] .
