Composition
The composition of the film is constructed in such a way that at first the viewer is shown an episode from the end of the film until the time designated as Sunday 10:02 am (translated from English - “Sunday, 10:02”). Then the action of the film is postponed two days ago to Denver , Colorado . From here, late Friday evening ( Eng. Friday 11:30 pm ), the journey of the auto trailer Kowalski begins. In the course of the further development of the plot, the consistent narrative is interrupted by memories from Kowalski's former life. The film ends in San Francisco, California, on Sunday morning at 10 hours and 4 minutes.
Story
Prologue
In the California city of San Francisco, police block a roadway with two bulldozers. The van pulls in with a CBS correspondent. This year, accompanied by a patrol helicopter, a white Dodge Challenger of 1970 is sent. The car turns around abruptly, approaching the scene of a police ambush, and drives in the opposite direction. Three patrol cars are moving towards him, blocking the passage. White Dodge turns off the road into the desert, and the pursuers stop chasing. Having driven away, the Dodge stops. Out of the car comes a man in a white shirt and jeans, who, as it later turns out, is called Kowalski. After thinking about something for a while, he gets back into the car and returns to the track. As the Dodge drives past the black Chrysler Imperial, moving in the opposite lane, the image on the screen freezes. Appears California - Sunday - 10:02 am After that, the image of the white Dodge Challenger disappears, and the Chrysler continues on its way.
Denver, Colorado. Friday, 23:30
Dark. A black Chrysler arrives at the gate of the Argo's Car Delivery Service. The car manufacturer Kowalski is transferred from the Chrysler Imperial to the Dodge Challenger and sets off without a rest. On the way, he slows down near the biker bar to take benzedrine from his friend and drug dealer Jake. On the offer to stay, Kowalski replies that he needs to be in San Francisco tomorrow at three o'clock in the afternoon (although later a police report says that the car in San Francisco needs to be delivered on Monday).

Remake
- In 1997, the film was directed by Charles Robert Carner, a remake of The Vanishing Point. The plot of this film was postponed in the second half of the 1990s and slightly changed: Drover James Kowalski ( Viggo Mortensen plays his role) learns that his pregnant wife is in hospital and her life is in danger. He turns the car around, but the police, who do not even try to understand the reason for such behavior of Kowalski and try to detain him, slow down him for speeding. James presses the gas, and a long chase begins over several states, during which the police are increasingly beginning to shoot to kill (in the original 1971 the police did not use weapons at all). In the end, after learning that his wife had died in childbirth, Kowalski accelerates to maximum speed (over 140 miles per hour), and his car explodes, crashing into bulldozers set up by the police. The Kowalski car still remains a white Dodge Challenger from 1970, but with the 426 HEMI engine (in the original, the 440 Magnum was on the car).
