Legal statistics

Legal statistics is a system of concepts and methods of the general theory of statistics applied to the field of studying offenses and measures of social control over them.

Legal statistics is one of the branches of statistical science, which, with its indicators, displays the quantitative side of various social phenomena related to the application of legal norms and the implementation of legal responsibility: it characterizes the level, structure and dynamics, causes and conditions of manifestations of various offenses and measures to combat them in specific conditions of both space and time.

Indicators of legal statistics make it possible to determine the level of law and order in society thanks to the digital characteristics of all offenses examined by law enforcement agencies. Using the data of legal statistics, one can also characterize the activities of internal affairs bodies, prosecutors, court bodies, correctional labor institutions, economic courts, notaries and other bodies that perform the functions of jurisdiction, and identify deficiencies that have occurred in the work of these bodies.

Types of Legal Statistics

  • civil law statistics - records civil disputes that are settled by courts of general jurisdiction and arbitration courts, as well as records of the results of these bodies.
  • administrative and legal statistics - takes into account administrative offenses by their types, damage caused, the nature of administrative penalties, bodies of administrative jurisdiction and arbitration courts, as well as recording the results of activities of these bodies.
