Classification

About 1100 species are known. [3] Collembolas of the Isotomidae family belong to the Isotomoidea superfamily from the suborder Entomobryomorpha (or order). [4] . There are several known fossil species: Burmisotoma lamellifera , Isotoma protocinerea , Isotoma crassicornis , Proisotoma pettersonae , Propachyotoma conica , Protodesoria granda [5] [6] . Some authors also include the oldest known insect in the Rhyniella praecursor family [7] .
