Revolutionary Marxist League

The revolutionary Marxist League arose in the fall of 1969 in Lausanne as a Trotskyite split from the People’s and Workers' Party and was mainly supported by pupils and students. Together with the Progressive Organizations of Switzerland and the Autonomous Socialist Party, it was one of the main groups of the new left , which - unlike the traditional left parties - was actively engaged in extra-parliamentary work. The party reached its largest number in 1975 , when it had about 500 members, of which about 150 were in the canton of Vaud .

Rename and dissolve

After renaming in 1980, the party began to gradually move away from Trotskyism. Signs of a slowdown appeared around 1985, and the last congress took place in 1987. At the same time, the party, both at the national and cantonal levels, virtually disappeared into the Green Alternative movement. In 1991, the PSA was dissolved, and part of the organization formed SolidaritéS ( Romandia ), the Socialist Green Alternative ( Zug ) and the Socialist Alternative / Solidarity ( Basel ).

The RML and later PSAs published the newspapers La Brèche (in French, monthly, then two weeks, 1969-1994), Bresche (in German, 1971-1994), Rosso (in Italian, 1973-1994) and Rojo (in Spanish) )
