The doctor is a representative of the extraterrestrial race of the Time Lords from the planet Gallifrey , who, with the help of the space-time device TARDIS, travels through time and space, often with satellites. When the Doctor receives significant injuries, his body can "regenerate", but with each new incarnation, his appearance and character change.

Biography

The First Doctor suffered serious injuries in the battle with the cybermen (the “ Tenth Planet ” series), but his body healed itself - it regenerated, becoming the Second Doctor.

At first, the connection between the Second Doctor and his predecessor was unclear. In his first story, the Second Doctor referred to the First in the third person, as if he were a completely different person.

During this incarnation, the Doctor confronted both already familiar enemies, such as distant and cybermen , as well as new ones, such as Ice Warriors. At the same time, the Doctor first meets Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart - the English military, who will subsequently become the leader of UNIT - a military organization whose task is to protect the Earth from alien threats.

The Second Doctor was convicted by the Time Lords for violating their laws of non-intervention. Despite the Doctor’s opinion that the Time Lords should use their abilities to help others, he was sentenced to exile on Earth of the twentieth century. And before the link, the Time Lords initiated the process of its regeneration into the Third Doctor .

Character

The Second Doctor was called the “Cosmic Hobo” because the mischievous Second Doctor seemed to be much more battered and sincere than his first incarnation. Agile, smart and always several steps ahead of enemies, from time to time he could be a calculating intriguer who would not only manipulate people for the greater good, but act like a clumsy fool so that others underestimate his true abilities (“ Tomb of Cybermen ”, “ Evil ” far away ") .

But, despite the frequent outbursts of anger and the fact that he sometimes began to panic when events got out of hand, the Second Doctor always acted heroically and tried to help the depressed. More than any other, this incarnation of the time lord was "a wolf in sheep's clothing."

The second Doctor, like every other, had his favorite phrase. He had it: “When I say“ run ”- run!”, “Oh my words!” And “Aunt merciful!” (Though the last one we will hear for the first time only in a series called “ Crotons ”). He was also remembered by the audience for playing the recorder (once he even managed to use this habit as proof that he was not an impostor).

Story Style

With the advent of the young Doctor, the stories in which he participated also changed. They have become more dynamic and fantastic. If the “Hartnell era” in the series was marked by the historicity of the incidents, then in the “era of Trauton” the vast majority of events took place outside the Earth and was somehow connected with various monsters. The last story of the Second Doctor in the style of the First is the Highlanders series.

As with its predecessor, all series were black and white. Only late special issues in which Trauton appeared - “ Three Doctors ”, “ Five Doctors ” and “ Two Doctors ” were colored.

Trauton starred in the full three seasons of the series, but most of the episodes with the Second Doctor were disposed of - a complete list of episodes shows how many of them were lost. Only two stories from the first two seasons of the Second Doctor (“ Tomb of Cybermen ” and “ Enemy of the World ”) are completely preserved. Eight stories were partially preserved (most often 1-2 parts of four or six), and four were completely lost, including his first story (“ Energy of the Far Away ”).

Other appearances

The second Doctor returned to the series three times. For the first time - in a special issue of Three Doctors dedicated to the tenth anniversary of the series. William Hartnell's return as First Doctor also took place in this series. The second time - in the series “ Five Doctors ”, dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the series. And the last time - in 1985 in the series " Two Doctors ." There is no official version at what time these events took place for the Second Doctor, however there is a theory that this happened during the hypothetical 6B season .

A short clip with the Second Doctor appeared in the 2008 Christmas issue of The Next Doctor and in the series The Eleventh Hour . Also, his images appeared in the series " Vincent and the Doctor ", " Silver Nightmare " and " Husbands River Song ".

The second Doctor was involved in saving Gallifrey in the Doctor 's Day series.
