They differ from other collembolas in their body shape. For example, Symphypleona have an almost round or spherical body shape, while Poduromorpha is oval. Entomobryomorpha has an elongated body with short legs and long antennae.
The Entomobryomorpha group previously, as Entomobryoidea, combined with Poduromorpha (whereas Poduroidea ) in a taxon called “Arthropleona” , but current evidence has shown that it is paraphyletic. And all three groups of collembolas ( Entomobryomorpha, Poduromorpha , Symphypleona ) are now considered as independent and of equal taxonomic level. At a time when collembolas were considered a detachment of insects , the Arthropleona and Symphypleona were treated as suborders. [one]
