Ernst Pöppel (German: Ernst Pöppel, 1940, Pomerania) - German psychologist and neuroscientist . He studied psychology and zoology in Innsbruck, Freiburg and Munich. Since 1968 - Dr. phil., PhD in psychology; from 1974 - Dr. med. habil., Ph.D. in physiology of perception; from 1976 - Dr. phil. habil., Doctor of Science in Psychology; since 1976 - Prof., professor of medical psychology. Since 1993 - ML, academician of Leopoldina (National Academy of Sciences of Germany). Since 2016 - a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Education .

Studies of time perception, circadian rhythms ( ) and neuropsychology of vision ( , Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA). In 1973, together with Richard Held and Douglas Frost, he described the phenomenon of residual vision, also known as blindsight. Published about 400 articles, 25 books and monographs. Under the guidance of prof. Pöppel has defended about 250 master's and 32 doctoral dissertations. Scientific interests in the field of time perception, neuroplasticity, neuroesthetics, chronobiology, neuroanesthesiology, gerontology, neuroeconomics. In addition to scientific activities, Ernst Pöppel is actively involved in building a scientific and cultural dialogue, as well as international cooperation (especially with Poland, China, Japan, Russia), following the principle of “scientists are the best diplomats”.
In 1977 he founded the Institute of Medical Psychology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Munich [1] , remaining its director until 2008. From 1992 to 1997, he was a member of the board of directors of the Julich Research Center . In 1997, together with Herald Neuweiler, he founded the Interdisciplinary Center for the Humanities of the University of Munich [2] , becoming the chairman of the scientific council.
