Botanical Description
Pine bruise - two or three year old giant grass . Monocarpic . In the first year of life, only leaves appear, subsequently - a flower arrow up to 4 m tall with a dense mass of leaves and small blue flowers .
Distribution and Ecology
Endemic . It grows only on the island of Gran Canaria ( Canary Islands ), in artificial conditions grown in the gardens of the UK and Ireland .
It grows only in laurel forests - Monteverde - on basalt rocks.
Known from three locations northeast of the city of Las Palmas . In 1972, only 2 adult specimens were found in one locality, and 35 km of adult plants with seedlings were found 1 km from this place. Only a few specimens are known at the second location, and the condition of the third is unknown. [1] .
In connection with the reduction of laurel forests - the natural habitat of the plant - there is a danger of its extinction. The plant is very decorative, therefore, it is destroyed when young plants are transferred to the gardens.
Practical use
Recommended for cultivation in the southern marine areas of England . There is evidence of successful cultivation under favorable conditions in the middle of England and Yorkshire . Some specimens were grown in Dublin gardens and in the Irish National Botanical Garden (Glasnevin). Breeding work is underway in order to obtain more stable forms.
