Japanese villages

Villages ( Japanese 村 dream, mura ) are the lowest administrative units of Japan at the municipal level.

Villages are constituent parts of the counties of the prefecture in which they are located. They do not have their own separate councils, but they can choose the general prefectural council of all towns and villages of the prefecture. The legal status of the village in Japanese law is not clearly entered.

In April 2007, there were 195 villages in Japan, but due to increased urbanization , their number is gradually decreasing.

As of April 1, 2010, there are 184 villages in Japan [1] .
