Mausoleum of Mao Zedong ( Chinese trad. 毛主席 紀念堂 , Exercise 纪念堂 , pinyin : Máo Zhǔxí Jìniàntáng , pall .: Mao Zhusi Jingyantan , literally: “Memorial of Chairman Mao”) is the mausoleum of one of the founders and long-term leader The CPC and the PRC Mao Zedong . Built in 1976-1977 in the central part of Tiananmen Square in Beijing to the south of the monument to the People's Heroes. One of the five currently operating mausoleums of the former leaders of the socialist countries (the other four are the tombs of Lenin in Moscow , Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il in Pyongyang , Josip Broz Tito in Belgrade and Ho Chi Minh in Hanoi ).

Architecture
The memorial complex has a length of 260 meters from north to south and 220 meters from east to west, occupying an area of 57,200 m², and the buildings occupying an area of 33,867 m². The main building of the memorial has a length and width of 105.5 m and a height of 33.6 m. Along the perimeter of the building are 44 granite octahedral columns, each 17.5 meters high. The area of this building is more than 20,000 m². Above the main entrance to the complex there is an inscription on white marble with the golden hieroglyphs “Memorial complex of Chairman Mao” ( kit. 毛主席 纪念堂 ). In the memorial there are 10 halls and open rooms.
North Hall (北 大厅). In the center of the hall there is a marble statue of Chairman Mao, 3.45 m high. On the walls there is an engraving by Xu Kuan's Motherland (Chinese: 大地), 23.74 meters long and 6.6 meters high. There are 110 light sources on the glass ceiling. The hall accommodates 700 people.
Hall of visitors (瞻仰 厅). In the center of the hall in the crystal coffin are the remains of Chairman Mao Zedong, dressed in a gray suit and covered with a Chinese bright red communist flag. The base of the crystal coffin is made of black granite. At the entrance to the hall, on the white marble walls, there are 17 gilded hieroglyphs "伟大 的 领袖 和 导师 毛泽东 主席 永垂不朽" (" Eternal memory to the great leader and teacher, Chairman Mao Zedong ").
Hall of revolutionary achievements (革命 业绩 纪念 室). The hall is dedicated to the memory of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai , Liu Shaoqi , Zhu De , Deng Xiaoping , Chen Yun and other proletarian revolutionaries. In the hall about 102 exhibits and artifacts, 224 documents, 490 photos, letters and paintings telling about the history of the Chinese Communist Party are displayed. Today, each room has a TV and an electronic touch screen with various information.
Cinema hall (电影 厅). On the second floor of the building there is a hall where the documentary “Tosca” (Kit. 怀念) is shown. This 20-minute colorized film shows Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Deng Xiaoping, Chen Yun, the revolutionary leaders of Chinese socialist construction along with the Chinese people.
South Hall (南 大厅). Verses “满江红 · выг 郭沫若” are engraved on the marble wall of the hall. The hall contains plants and flowers, as well as paintings depicting Chinese landmarks.
