Ilyin, Nikolai Yakovlevich (Hero of the Soviet Union)

Nikolai Yakovlevich Ilyin was born in 1922 in the village of Chernukhino (now - an urban-type settlement in the Perevalsky district of the Luhansk region) in a working-class family.

After graduating from secondary school No. 6, he worked as a locksmith in the control point for automatic brakes (AKP) of the Debaltseve- Sortirovochnoe depot in the Donetsk region .

With the outbreak of World War II , without waiting for the draft, he himself came to the draft board. He was sent to the army in February 1942 as deputy political instructor in the 50th Guards Rifle Regiment ( 15th Guards Rifle Division , 57th Army , Stalingrad Front ). Nikolai Ilyin was one of the initiators of the sniper movement on the Stalingrad front.

October 16, 1942 Nikolai Ilyin was handed a sniper rifle named after Hero of the Soviet Union Hussein Andrukhaev on the butt of which the command of the 136th Infantry Division of the Southern Front , in memory of the hero, attached a metal plate with the inscription " Name of the Hero of the Soviet Union H. Andrukhaev " ^[2] . By the time the rifle was presented to the foreman, Nikolai Yakovlevich Ilyin, he had already 115 Nazis on his account. After the death of N. Ilyin, the rifle No. KE-1729 , to which a plate was attached with the inscription: “ Names of Heroes of the Soviet Union X. Andrukhaev and N. Ilyin ”, was transferred to another sniper - Gordienko Afanasy Emelyanovich . Currently, this rifle is stored in the Central Museum of the Armed Forces of the USSR ^[3] .

From October 18 to November 1, 1942, on the site of the village of Dubovy Ovrag - Bolshie Chapurniki, for 11 days of sniper hunting, Ilyin destroyed 95 enemy soldiers. By February 1943, Nikolai Ilyin shot 216 enemy soldiers and officers. In total, by the time of the death of Nikolai Ilyin, there were 494 enemies ^[4] . For courage and bravery in the fight against the German invaders, Nikolai Ilyin was awarded the Order of the Red Banner .

The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR By decree of February 8, 1943, for the courage and military valor shown in battles with enemies, he was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal.

After the defeat of the enemy group near Stalingrad, the 15th Guards Rifle Division, in which Ilyin served, reached the Seversky Donets River and took up the defense.

On August 4, 1943, in a battle near the village of Yastrebovo, Nikolai Ilyin died, killed by a machine gun burst.

Nikolay Yakovlevich Ilyin was buried in the village of Nikolskoye ( Shebekinsky district, now the Belgorod region ), where a memorial plaque was installed.
