Biography
Tatyana Grigoryevna Popova was born on January 25 (January 11 according to the old style) in 1898 in the Ukrainian village of Nemyrovets, Berdychiv Uyezd, Zhytomyr Province (now Kiev Region) in the family of a small employee. After graduating from a gymnasium with a gold medal in 1916, she entered Tomsk State University.
After graduating from the natural department of the university in 1921, she was left in graduate school at the Department of Botany, which was led by Professor V.V. Sapozhnikov.
After graduating from graduate school in 1925, she worked as an assistant in the department of botany of the same university, and in 1934 she was appointed assistant professor.
Working at Tomsk University, Tatyana Grigoryevna was initially involved in higher plants, and since 1927 she began to specialize in lower plants. With an abundance of water resources, Western Siberia presents a wide field of activity for an algologist: Tatyana Grigorievna focused on studying the algae flora of mineral and freshwater bodies of Kulunda. The results of these studies have been reflected in a number of publications.
