Biography
Born November 24 ( December 6 ), 1885 in the family of a cook. Father died when the boy was 4 years old.
In 1902 he graduated from a teacher training institute in Feodosia . In 1910-1914 he studied at the Moscow Commercial Institute .
Since 1913 - Head of the Moscow City Museum of Urban Economics. Since 1920, he headed the Moscow Street Renaming Commission. He studied the history of Moscow streets and squares. In 1926, he organized an exhibition on the history of Moscow, located in the Sukharev Tower , and proposed creating a historical and architectural zone around the tower. In 1929-1939 he worked in the research department of Metrostroy . He participated in the work of the commission "Old Moscow" , and in the 1930s he headed the commission "New Moscow"; fought for the salvation of the Kitay-Gorod wall , the Red Gate , the Sukharev tower. Since 1939 he worked at the Museum of the History and Reconstruction of Moscow . In the late 1950s, he created an archive of photographs of the buildings of old Moscow, subject to demolition "under Kalininsky Prospekt "
He taught a course in Moscow studies at the Moscow State Pedagogical Institute named after V.I. Lenin .
He died on October 28, 1968 . He was buried in Moscow at the new Donskoy cemetery .
