Tete ( port. Tete ) is a province in Mozambique . The area is 100 724 km². The population is 1,801,528 people (as of 2007 ). The administrative center of the province is the city of Tete with a population of 101 984 people (1996).

Content
Geography
Tete Province is located in the northwest of Mozambique. In its east and northeast, there is a state border between Mozambique and Malawi , in the north and northwest - the state border with Zambia , in the west - the state border with Zimbabwe . In the south, Tete is adjacent to the provinces of Manika , Sofala and Zambesia .
The main natural landscape of the province are mopane thickets and grassy meadows. The Zambezi River flows through Tete, which forms here after the construction of the Cabora-Bassa hydroelectric power station one of the largest artificial lakes in the world, Kahora Bassa, with a length of 250 and a width of 38 kilometers.
History
Tete Province was hit hard during the war during the Civil War in Mozambique after it gained independence in 1975 .

Economics
The main occupation of local residents (for more than 3/4 of the population) is agriculture. In the past, cotton was the main crop; currently his place was taken by tobacco. Only from 2003 to 2006, tobacco production in the province doubled. Deposits of coal, bauxite, gold, iron, nickel, copper and other minerals have also been explored in Tete.
