Content
Description
Fore wing length 27–29 mm. Wingspan 50–55 mm. The front wings are black with a metallic green tint, and three oblique stripes of cream color. The trailing edge of the wing is also cream colored. The hind wings are red with three black spots in the middle and along the outer edge of the wing. The chest is black with light longitudinal stripes, the abdomen is red, and there are a number of black dots on it.
Range
All Central and Southern Europe - from the UK and Spain. Lithuania , Belarus , Ukraine , Crimea , Moldova , Asia Minor , all the countries of Transcaucasia , Turkey , Syria , Northern Iran , Turkmenistan (Kopetdag). In Russia: the European part: to the north almost to St. Petersburg and Tatarstan , to the east - to the Orenburg region , as well as the North Caucasus .

Flight Time
From early July to early September. Butterflies are most active at night, during the day you can often find feeding on flowers.
Habitats
Glades and clearings of broad-leaved forests, glades, shrubberies, grassy slopes, river floodplains, ravines. Prefers moist open places. A sedentary species, averse to migration. Habitats are local.
Reproduction
Fodder plants of caterpillars - crayfish , fireweed , nettle , as well as honeysuckle , hazel , raspberries , blackberries . Winters caterpillar.

It was listed in the Red Book of the USSR ( 1984 ).
