Construction
The cruiser, like the battleship Captain Prat , had a rhombic arrangement of four main-caliber guns. The airborne towers were particularly vulnerable to shell explosions beneath them and were the cruiser’s most distinct “birthmark”. The cruiser was 1,500 tons larger than the Esmeralda and carried more impressive protection: the belt thickness reached 180 mm, the armor deck 50 mm in the flat part and 75 mm on the bevel. The number of 6 "guns was reduced to 10, six of them were placed in separate casemates under the upper deck, which cannot be considered particularly successful, and four6" guns were located on the upper deck along the sides in separate towers in the middle and stern.
