| Victorious angel with a sword | Russian necropolis | In 1935, a crypt with the figure of a victorious angel with a sword was erected on the territory of the New Cemetery . It contains the remains of Russian soldiers, doctors and nurses who died in Serbia during the First World War. The crypt also contained the remains of 387 officers and soldiers of the Russian Expeditionary Force who died on the Thessaloniki Front in 1916-1918, 136 officers and soldiers of two Russian artillery batteries defending Belgrade during the siege of the Austro-Hungarians and Germans, and about 100 Russian soldiers, dead in hospitals occupied by the Austrians of Serbia. | |
