High church

High Church

Initially, the “high church” movement appeared in the bowels of Anglicanism , but later gained popularity among some Lutherans , for example, it became the main direction in the Church of Sweden . The High Church insists on the importance of vestments, traditions of church architecture and medieval music during worship . Opposes the “ low church ” movement, denying the need for this.

In the first half of the 17th century in England, the commitment of the Archbishop of Canterbury William Laude to the doctrines of the high church was an important part of the conflict between Charles I and the Long Parliament (influenced by Presbyterian ideals, low-church in nature) and became one of the reasons for the beginning of the English Revolution . Despite the unprecedented execution of Lod in English history in 1645 and the subsequent fierce persecution during the civil war, after the Restoration of the Stuarts in 1660, the high-church trend in Anglicanism prevailed and remains dominant to this day.
