Biography
He studied at the Leipzig Conservatory under Moritz Hauptmann , Ignaz Mosheles and Ernst Friedrich Richter , then taught there (mainly an organ). Among his students were, in particular, Edward Grieg , Nikolai Lysenko , Oscar Merriutto , Paul Homayer , Charles Villiers Stanford , Albert Augustus Stanley , Gustave Gagnon . The memoirs of George Whitefield Chadwick , who also had to deal with Papperitz’s organ, but neglected this course and did not attend it, describes how, when he left Leipzig, Papperitz praised one of his writings with special warmth, and as a result of the conversation, the amazed Chedwick realized that Papperitz does not remember whether he studied with him or not [1] .
In 1868 he replaced his teacher Richter as the titular organist of the Church of St. Nicholas and held this position until 1899 .
The author of a number of organ and choral plays.
