Geography
According to the US Census Bureau, Auckland has an area of 201.66 km², of which 144.75 km² is land and 56.9 km² is water (28.22% of its total area [4] ). Two thirds of the territory is occupied by a plain adjacent to the bay, and one third is located on the hills. One of Auckland’s attractions is Lake Merritt , the largest salt lake in the United States.
The city of El Monte is located at an altitude of 13 meters above sea level [5] .
Climate
Auckland's climate in temperature and seasonal humidity is close to the Mediterranean. It combines the characteristics of coastal cities such as San Francisco and offshore cities such as San Jose . Auckland is usually warmer than San Francisco and colder than San Jose. Although it is not directly adjacent to the Pacific Ocean , the location of the city relative to San Francisco Bay , directly opposite the Golden Gate, is the cause of heavy sea fog in the summer. Since a significant part of the city is remote from the coast, the fog dissipates by noon and is usually sunny in the afternoon.
