History
The day of the commander of a surface, underwater and air ship was established in the Russian Federation at the initiative of a number of veteran organizations and at the request of the regional public organization of admirals and generals of the Navy “Admiral Club” [1] . This initiative was supported by the Commander- in- Chief of the Navy of the Russian Federation, Admiral Vladimir Vysotsky , who in 2007 issued an order "On the introduction of the annual holiday of the Day of the Commander of the Navy."
The order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy of Russia ordered to mark the Day of the commander of a surface, underwater and air ship on October 8, the day when, according to the Julian calendar , the Battle of Navarino took place in 1827 . According to the Gregorian calendar , that is, according to the New Style, in the XXI century this day falls on October 20. However, the order "On the introduction of the annual holiday of the Day of the commander of the Navy" for some reason indicates the date of October 8.
When establishing the Day of the Commander of surface, submarine and air ship, the fact that naval aviation units operate in the modern fleet was also taken into account, and therefore aircraft commanders were not forgotten.
