When approaching the town of Iletsk on September 23, 1773, the Yaik Cossacks convinced the local Cossacks to join the rebel army. Ivan Tvorogov was chosen as the ataman of the regiment of Iletsky Cossacks. In November 1773, Tvorogov became a member of the Military College of the Pugachevites. [1] He took part in the siege of Orenburg , a campaign of rebels in the Urals and the Volga region. In August 1774, Tvorogov, together with Colonels Fedulev , Chumakov and others, organized a conspiracy against Pugachev, hoping at the cost of his arrest and extradition to receive forgiveness from the government, save his own life and avoid punishment. After the defeat in the battle at the Solenikova gang on August 25, when the Cossacks crossed the Volga into small detachments, on 8 September, the conspirators tied Pugachev near the Bolshoi Uzen River and delivered him to Yaitsky town a week later.

In November, Tvorogov was taken to Moscow, where a general investigation was conducted over Pugachev and other main participants in the uprising. By a court verdict of January 9, 1775, the city of Pernov (now Pärnu in Estonia ) was exiled to a lifelong settlement in Livonia province . Last mentioned in documents in 1819 .
