Geography
The city is located on the Inn River. Included in the district of Braunau am Inn . The population is 17 332 people (as of December 18, 2006 ). Covers an area of 24.8 km². The air temperature during the year usually varies from 25 ° F (−3.9 ° C) to 76 ° F (24.4 ° C), rarely dropping below 10 ° F (−12.2 ° C) or rising above 87 ° F (30.6 ° C) [3] .
History
The city is located at the intersection of important transportation arteries, so it was well fortified since the days of Roman rule [4] .
In 1260, Braunau am Inn was turned into a Bavarian fortress, which was significantly strengthened under Elector Maximilian and Ferdinand-Maria (1672) [4] .
February 3, 1742 during the war for the Austrian inheritance , during the invasion of the Austrian troops in Bavaria, passed into the hands of the Austrians, but in September they were left because of the concentration of all Austrian forces in Bohemia for action against the French and re-occupied by the Bavarians. On June 27, 1743, Karl Alexander of Lorraine captured the city [4] .
In the era of the Napoleonic Wars, Braunau am Inn passed into the hands of the French. According to the Presburg Treaty, Napoleon was supposed to clean it, but he did it only in December 1807, after the conclusion of the union between Austria and Russia [4] .

The burgomaster of the commune - Johannes Vaydbakher ( ANP ) according to the results of the 2011 elections [5] . The council of representatives of the commune ( Gemeinderat ) consists of 37 seats.

Famous People
On April 20, 1889, Adolf Hitler was born in the village of Ranshofen , which later became part of Braunau-in-Inn. In 1933, Hitler received the title of honorary citizen Ranshofen. In 1989, in front of the house (address - Salzburger Vorstadt 15), where he was born, a memorial stone was set up against war and fascism [6] . In 2011, the city council of Braunau-in-Ann declared that the title of honorary resident of the city was symbolically removed from Adolf Hitler, pointing out that there is no archival evidence that the city of Braunau-in-Inne assigned Hitler the title of honorary citizen [7] .
