Criticism and reviews
The story received warm support from the writer and playwright Boris Lavrenyov . Tvardovsky responded warmly about the work, and Panferov did not fail to note the high quality of the story at his speech during the Third All-Union Congress of Writers. [1] In the preface to the collection of works by Maurice Simashko, published in 1983 by the publishing house Zhazushi , Z. Kedrina notes that the work was written, of course, talented, but it is not yet perfect. In addition, Kedrina says that the author with absolute convincing vitality, from clear Marxist positions, depicts the transformation of man “for himself” into man “for people”, the transition from the tribal system of the soul to a new socialist consciousness. Kedrina also emphasizes the skill of depicting the character of the protagonist - Chara, which is painted with the brush of an artist, based on the deep work of the researcher . At the same time, in the image of the characters of other Red Guards, there is still a dry clarity of the newsboy.
