The state language in Armenia is Armenian , it is spoken by 97.7% of the population. In addition, Yezidi , spoken by the Yezidis (1%), and Russian (0.9%) are common .
On January 22, 2002, Armenia ratified the European Charter for Regional Languages . According to it, the Yezidi , Russian , Greek and Assyrian languages are recognized as minority languages in Armenia . [one]
In Armenia, the Russian language does not have an official status, but is widespread, it is spoken by about 70% of the country's population. Russian is a compulsory subject for study in Armenian schools. [2]
