George Phillips Bond ( Eng. George Phillips Bond ; May 20, 1825 (or May 25, 1826?), Dorchester (Massachusetts) - February 17, 1865 , Cambridge (Massachusetts) ) - an American astronomer . The son of an American astronomer William Crunch Bond .

Biography
In 1845 he received his degree at Harvard University and then became his father's assistant at the observatory. From 1859 until his death in 1865, he was the successor to his father as director of the Harvard University Observatory [1] . His cousin Edward Singleton Holden was the first director of the Lick Observatory .
In 1848, together with his father, Saturn discovered a satellite of Hyperion . He was the founder of photographic photometry . He, his father and Massachusetts General Hospital photographer John Adams Whipple took the first photograph of the star. On the night of July 16-17, 1850, a photograph ( daguerreotype ) of Vega was taken. In addition, J. Bond discovered many comets and calculated their orbits. He studied the planet Saturn and the Orion Nebula . In 1865, J. Bond was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society . Died of tuberculosis .
- In honor of George Bond and his father William, the asteroid (767) Bondia , discovered in 1913, is named.
- In honor of George Bond named a crater on the moon .
