In 2009, the tournament was held from October 19 to 25 . The competition continued a series of hall tournaments located on the calendar between the US Open and the Final Tournaments.

Last year's winners:

  • in the men's singles - Russia Igor Kunitsyn
  • in the women's singles - Serbia Elena Yankovich
  • in the men's doubles - Ukraine Sergey Stakhovsky and Italy Potito Starace
  • in the women's doubles - Slovenia Katarina Srebotnik and Russia Nadezhda Petrova

General Information

The 20th draw of the tournament was held in a slightly modified format: due to the reform of the calendar of both the female and male proturs, the competition had to be moved forward several weeks. At the same time, the male prize retained its status as the competition of the base series of the main round, and the female one fell in this rankings table by one level (from the first category to the second, which since 2009 received a new name: junior premier series). At the same time, the men's tournament began to closely adjoin the major tournament in Shanghai , and the female - to the Final tournament , which for the worse affected the elite part of the list of participants.

The list of participants in the men's singles tournament was headed by Nikolai Davydenko (No. 8 in the world at that time). The Russian could not confirm his status, having lost already in the opening, and the title was played by two other seeded tennis players: the third racket of the tournament Mikhail Yuzhny , following the results of three sets, proved his advantage over the sixth - Yanko Tipsarevich . The strongest seeded tournament participants lost in the semifinals. Last year's champion - Igor Kunitsyn - defended his title, but lost already at the start.

The seeding leaders in the doubles competition were Frantisek Cermak and Michal Mertinyak (21st and 20th racket of the world at that time). The Czechoslovak team was able to overcome all the way to the finals, but in the decisive match did not cope with the third seeders: Pablo Cuevas and Marcel Granollers , losing to them in the decisive tie-break. The strongest sowing team was the duo Rohan Bopanna / Janko Tipsarevich , who reached the semifinals. Last year's champions - Sergey Stakhovsky and Potito Starache - did not defend their title.

The list of women singles tournament participants was headed by Vera Zvonareva (No. 7 in the world at that time). The Russian woman stayed in the bracket for only two matches, and the title went to the eighth seeded: Francesca Schiavone , who in the finals beat the unfrozen Olga Govortsova . Last year's champion - Elena Yankovich - defended her title, but lost in the quarterfinals.

The seeding leaders in the doubles competition were Nuria Lyagostera Vives and Maria Jose Martinez-Sanchez (9th and 10th racket of the world at that time). The Spaniards stayed in the bracket for only a couple of matches, and the title went to the third seeded: Maria Kirilenko and Nadezhda Petrova , who managed in the final with the unseeded team Maria Kondratieva / Klara Zakopalova . Another last year's champion - Katarina Srebotnik - did not attend the Moscow tournament in 2009.
