Biography
Thompson was born in Chicago , but grew up in Los Angeles . He received his bachelor 's degree from Pomona College and his doctorate from Cornell University . Thompson was a professor of humanities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and York University ( Toronto , Canada ). He was also a visiting professor at the University of Syracuse, the University of Hawaii, the University of Toronto , the Western Institute of Behavioral Sciences, and the California Institute for Integral Studies .
