Known for his performances for Neftchi (Baku) in the 70-80s. [1] Fans especially remembered the 1982 Neftchi (Baku) - Spartak (Moscow) USSR Championship match, scoring two goals against Rinat Dasayev. Shikhlarov scored the second goal in the 89th minute and thus brought Neftchi a 4-3 victory. [2]
He spent the second half of the 80s in Kapaz (Kirovabad), and in 1992 held a number of games in the first championship of independent Azerbaijan in football.
