Berdyansk Commercial Sea Port - located on the coast of the Sea of Azov, is the only maritime transport hub of the Zaporizhzhya region . Port History
In 1824, Count Vorontsov , Governor-General of the Novorossiysk Territory sent an expedition to the Sea of Azov. Her task was to find a place for the construction of a new seaport. The captain of Cretan, who led this expedition, in his report reported on several alleged places, but named the best place closed from the sea to the Berdyansk spit.
On June 2, 1830, the newspaper St. Petersburg Vedomosti reported about the new southern port:
"... the management has now allowed to open Berdyanskaya pier on June 1 of this year ... the opening of this pier promises, over time, great benefits not only to the nearest places of the Catherine and Tavria provinces, but will also serve as an abundance of other places."
