Little Jojo, the son of bassist Wali Mayer, spent his childhood in constant trips to Europe and the Far East. At the age of two, he received his first drum kit, and his first public appearance was in Hong Kong when he was only three years old. His inspirations were Jack DeJonet, Tony Williams and Buddy Rich.

At the age of 18, he joins the Monti Alexandra group and participates in a tour throughout Europe, playing at various jazz festivals, including such as the North-Sea-Jazz Festival, Montreux, Nice, Antibes, Athens, etc. During these tours Jojo met with such jazz legends as Dizzy Gillespie and Nina Simon, the international audience found out about him.

Having moved to New York in 1991, Jojo began to take part in various live and studio recordings. He toured Europe, North America, South America, the Far East and Africa. In her free time she works as a writer and producer.

He plays with guitarist David Fuczynski in the avant-garde pop rock band Screaming Headless Torsos and in the fusion jazz band Intergalactic Maiden Ballet.

About Mayer, they wrote in the January 2008 issue of Modern drummer. His DVD Secret Weapons for the Modern Drummer has become a bestseller worldwide.

He is an endorser of Sabian , Sonor , Vic Firth firms.
