Geography
The village is located on the river Son . Eight villages are located upstream of the Sons: Nymvozhgort, Vytvozhgort, Lovsanhom, Ovolingort, Loragort, Horpungort, Muvgort, Tiltim, Evrigort; 25 kilometers downstream - the village of Yamgort.

History
Ovgort was founded in 1895 .
Culture
In the village there is a museum of local lore. The museum was opened in 1985, as a school museum in 1993 - a branch of the Museum of Geneva. The museum building was built in 1949, originally this building was a school, since 1995 this building has been operating as a museum. The museum has 2856 exhibits, of which 2111 are the main fund.
Education
In the village there is a secondary boarding school (Municipal comprehensive school - boarding school Ovgort Secondary School - boarding school of secondary (full) education), a library and a kindergarten.

In winter, there is an air service on the route Salekhard - Ovgort - Muzhi . Passengers are transported by Mi-8 helicopter.
