History
In the late 60s, the first prototypes of the bus appeared. Since 1971, KavZ-685 began to produce pilot-industrial parties. These cars differed from future production cars in four-part composite windshields, which were replaced on production buses with two curved windows. Serial production of the bus began in 1973 .
In 1975, instead of round taillights and brake lights, new, rectangular shapes were used. The front direction indicators were also changed - they became two-tone.
At the end of 1977, the bus was awarded the “ Quality Mark ”.
Later, various modifications of the bus were produced, which were produced until 1989 .
Technical Description
The KavZ-685 was a small-capacity bonnet bus, like its predecessor, the KavZ-651B , and was intended primarily for work in rural areas. KavZ-685 differed from its predecessor in the increased overall dimensions of the cabin, more modern design, had improved traction and dynamic performance, increased reliability and increased turnaround times.
The chassis of the new bus was a special modification of the base chassis of the GAZ-53A - GAZ-53-40. It had a reinforced frame and suspension, a V-shaped carbureted eight-cylinder engine. To transmit increased torque, a reinforced single-disk clutch, a new gearbox and a new driveshaft were used. Since 1975, the brake system received a dual-circuit hydraulic drive with two hydraulic vacuum amplifiers and an emergency brake warning device.
KAVZ-685 had a warm passenger compartment, comfortable soft seats with small handrails of an original design, a driver's seat partially separated from passengers, good ventilation with sliding side windows and roof top hatches, good lighting. The overhaul mileage KavZ-685 averaged 260 thousand km.
Modifications
- KavZ-685S - was designed for operation in the northern regions of the country at temperatures up to −60 ° С.
- KavZ-685G - was intended to work in the mountains at an altitude of 3-4 thousand meters.
- KAVZ-685M (1984-1986) - an upgraded version of the bus. It was produced on the Gorky chassis GAZ-53-12 and with the new engine ZMZ-53-11.
- KavZ-3270 (1986-1991) is a modernized version of KavZ-685M with industry indexing according to GOST.
- KavZ-3271 (1991-1993) - transitional to KavZ-3976 .
