Content
History
In 1897, 1313 people lived in Korsovka, including 294 Lutherans, 278 Catholics, 609 Jews.
Karsava received the status of the city in 1928 . Stimulus for the growth of the city was given by the Malnava and Karsava stations on the Karsava - Rezekne I railway line, as well as as a junction of new highways .
In Soviet times, metalworking was developed.
Until July 1, 2009, it was part of the Ludza district with a district center in the city of Ludza . After the administrative-territorial reform, it became the center of the new Karsavsky Krai .
Malnava College established in 1921 (as Latgale Agricultural Secondary School) is located 1.5 km from Karsava
Geography
The area of the city is 3.9 km².
The distance in a straight line to the border with the Russian Federation from Karsava is 4.5 km. From the neighboring village of Bozawa, Karsavu is separated by the Utroya River [4] .
Population
According to the 2000 census, the city population was 2722 people, of which Latvians ( Latgalese ) - 65.1% (1772 people), Russians - 31.9% (868 people), and others ( Poles , Belarusians , etc. ) - 3.0% (82 people) [5] .
According to the 2011 census of Latvia, of the 2231 residents of the city, Latvians accounted for 72.66% (1621 people), Russians - 24.52% (547 people), others - 2.82% (63 people) [6] .
According to estimates at the beginning of 2015, the population of the city is 2081 permanent residents [1] .

Roads
Passing through Karsava, the A13 motorway passes the Russian border ( Grebnevo ) - Rezekne - Daugavpils - the Lithuanian border ( Medumi ), which is part of the European route E 262 .
The regional roads P45 Viljaka - Karsava, P48 Karsava - Tilzha - Dublukalns , P49 Karsava - Ludza - Ezernieki and P50 Karsava - the border of Russia ( Aizgarsha ) are suitable for Karsava.
