Filarets (from the Greek. Φιλάρετος "loving virtue") - a secret patriotic association of students of the University of Vilna , operating in 1820 - 1823 . It was founded by philologists as one of its subsidiaries. The goal was mutual assistance and self-improvement. The chairman of the Filaret Society was Tomasz Zan , one of the founders and leaders of the Filomat Society . One of the filaret circles was led by Jan Chechot .
The society consisted of four sections - physicists and mathematicians, lawyers, writers, physicians. Sections were divided into circles bearing the names of the colors of the rainbow. Section meetings were held twice a month.
New members were admitted to the company only on the recommendation of its members. The number of society reached 176 people. The activity of the society was suppressed by the mass arrests of students in 1823 in the case of philomats.
