Biography

Born on January 19, 1923 in the village of Koptevo, now Novoduginsky district, Smolensk region . Russian. He graduated from high school [1] .

He worked as a tractor driver on a collective farm , then as a foreman of a tractor brigade [1] .

The beginning of World War II

In 1941 , with the outbreak of World War II , he ended up in the occupied territory and, together with his friend, went into the forest. Together, rifles were fired at enemy aircraft until the police began to hunt for them [1] .

After some time, they were caught and, together with other boys and girls of the village, were loaded into a carriage and sent to Germany as slaves. Aleksey Danilov managed to escape after Vilnius , and for 2 months he made his way to the front line along the territory occupied by the Germans. He went to the Soviet troops near the city of Holm ( Novgorod region ) [1] .

In the Red Army

In the Red Army since 1943 (drafted by the Novoduginsky RVK of the Smolensk region ). He graduated from the regimental school of tankmen, mastered the specialty of loader and telegraph operator . Gunner-gunner (radio telegraphist) of the T-34 tank of the 2nd tank battalion of the 3rd Guards Tank Brigade of the Guard Sergeant A. I. Danilov - at the front since June 1944 [1] [2] .

On the night of June 30, 1944, the crew of the T-34-85 tank (tank commander of the party guards company lieutenant P.N. Rak , mechanic-driver of the tank A.A. Petryaev and gunner-gunner A.I. Danilov) broke through the Berezina river to the city of Borisov, Minsk Region, over a mined bridge, which immediately took off into the air [1] .

Cut off from their tankers, for 16 hours they fought on city streets, destroying a lot of enemy manpower and equipment, and also caused panic among the German garrison, which contributed to the liberation of the city on July 1, 1944 by Soviet troops. Several German tanks and self-propelled guns were used against the Soviet machine. In an unequal battle, the Soviet crew died [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 24, 1945 “for exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and shown courage and heroism” of the guard, Sergeant Aleksey Ilyich Danilov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union [1] .

The entire crew was buried in the city of Borisov (military burial No. 88 [3] ). A monument was erected on the Minsk - Moscow highway near the automobile bridge over the Berezina River. The IS-2 tank is set up on a stone pedestal. One of the streets of the city was named after him, and a special section is devoted to the tank heroes in the historical and local lore museum of Borisov [1] .

In his homeland, in the Smolensk region, a memorial plaque was installed [1] . By order of the Minister of Defense of the USSR A. I. Danilov, he was forever enlisted in the lists of the 5th company of the N-th Guards Tank Regiment [1] .

The crew’s feat was devoted to many publications - in newspapers, magazines, collections, in the memoirs of military leaders who participated in the battles for the liberation of Belarus . In particular, the story of the Hero of the Soviet Union N. S. Nikolsky “At the cost of life” is dedicated to the legendary crew [1] .
