Tyrannous manakins [1] ( lat. Tyranneutes ) is a genus of passerine birds from the Manakin family .

Content

Description

Small birds 7-9 cm with a short tail. They feed on small fruits and arthropods [2] [3] . The breeding season is from March to May. Cup-shaped nests are arranged in the forks of trees at a height of about 1.5 m [4] [5] .

Classification

The genus includes two species [6] . The closest genus is the genus Neopelma , with which it unites into a separate subfamily of manakine [7] [8] .

  • Tyranneutes virescens (Pelzeln, 1868) - Tiny Tyranny Manakin

Security

Both species of the genus are included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species with LC status ( Species under Least Threat ) [9] [10] .

Distribution

They are found in Venezuela , Guiana , Brazil , Ecuador , Peru and Bolivia [2] [3] .
