Small, up to 20 cm long, freshwater bone fish . A rounded elongated body, slightly compressed laterally, a whole-extreme pre-gill plate and a gill cover serrated along the edge, a long dorsal and anal fins, the front part of which is stretched by hard and sharp rays, slightly shortened by the remaining fins [1] . Body color brownish-green, belly yellowish. Thanks to a special suprajugal organ ( labyrinth ), which serves to breathe atmospheric air, it can remain out of the water for a long time (up to 6-8 hours).
They live in South Asia ( India , Burma, Indonesia ) and on the Philippine Islands in the inland still and flowing waters. Not afraid of brackish water [1] .
They feed on aquatic invertebrates and aquatic insect larvae.
