History
Calhoun County was formed in 1838 . It got its name from John Caldwell Calhoun , a member of the Senate from South Carolina and the seventh US Vice President, who worked under John Adams and Andrew Jackson . The majority of the population of the district remains loyal to the South American culture and way of life, in contrast to the inhabitants of the central and southern regions of Florida, who were influenced by strong immigration . Because of this, Calhoun County is much more like Alabama , Georgia, or Mississippi than much of Florida.
