Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus Toolkit is the first widely known antivirus program written by the English programmer Alan Solomon in 1988. It included the functions of preventing infection, virus detection, as well as the recovery of infected files.
It gained immense popularity and lasted until 1998, when Dr. Solomon was taken over by another antivirus manufacturer, the American Network Associates Inc (NAI).
It was released for Windows platforms (up to and including Windows 98 ), Novell , Unix , Solaris , and OS / 2 [1] .
History
Dr. Solomon's Anti-Virus was released March 1, 1997 and began to compete with market leaders Symantec Norton Anti-Virus and McAfee VirusScan for the end user.
After some tensions between the two software products mentioned above, [2] on June 9, 1998, McAfee agreed to acquire Dr Solomon's Group PLC, a leading European manufacturer of antivirus software, for $ 642 million. [3] .
