History

September 11, 1976 BOD project 61-ME "Reliable" was laid down at the shipyard them. 61 Kommunara in Nikolaev under serial number 2201. As early as April 14, 1976, he was added to the lists of ships of the Navy of the USSR .

September 17, 1977 "Reliable" was launched, and November 30, 1979 went into operation, temporarily joining the Red Banner Black Sea Fleet [3] .

May 4, 1980 "Reliable" was expelled from the Soviet Navy and transferred to India, where it was renamed and reclassified as destroyer "Rajput".

In 1993 - 1994, Rajput was modernized by the installation of new electronic equipment.

In 2003, “Rajput” became the first Indian Navy ship equipped with two inclined launchers for launching BrahMos supersonic anti - ship missiles (two missiles per launcher) [4] .

Performance Specifications

Power plant

The main power plant EM “Rajput” consists of four gas turbines of 18,000 liters. from. [1] . Currently, it is planned to replace it with an upgraded version of the Kaveri engine ( eng. Armament

After 2003, according to the plan of the Indian Ministry of Defense, four launchers for P-20 missiles were replaced by two twin-tube launchers for BrahMos missiles designed for firing at surface targets [6] .

Rajput was also equipped with an electronic warfare system Bharat Ajanta ( Indian design).

Since 2003, this destroyer has been a testing platform for the new Russian-Indian anti-ship missiles BrahMos , which are a modification of the Yakhont anti - ship missiles .
