The length of the river is 114 km, the basin area is 9160 km². The fall of the river - 26.9 m. [1]
It takes its source from Lake Lubans on the border of the Madona and Rezekne regions. Further, Aiviekste flows along the border with the Balvi and Rugai regions , along the Lubansky and Madona regions . In the lower reaches of the river runs the border between Pьaviскимas and Krustpils . It has a right tributary - Pededze .
On the river is Aiviekskaya hydroelectric power station with a capacity of 0.8 MW. [2] The creators of the hydropower plant were K. Zadde , E. Lūsis and F. Ansons . The station gave its first energy in 1925. It was the first large hydroelectric power station in Latvia and before the construction of the егegums hydroelectric station , that is, until 1938, the Iyivekstskaya hydroelectric power station was the most powerful in Latvia. At present, the Aiviekskaya Hydroelectric Power Station, together with the Ainazh Wind Power Station (WPP) with a capacity of 1.2 MW, is one of the smallest power plants belonging to Latvenergo . [2] Today it generates approximately 0.1% of all energy produced in Latvia. [3]
The river is rich in fish. Here you can catch pike , bream , perch , roach , tench , eel , and carp and catfish in some places. [4] Fishing rules in Latvia prohibit fishing on the Iyivext River in a zone 500 meters downstream of the Iyivekst Dam. [5]
