History
Created in accordance with the decree of the Central Committee of the All-Union Communist Party of Bolsheviks on September 9, 1933 on the basis of the children's sector of the publishing house “Young Guard” and the school sector of the State publishing house of fiction called “Detgiz” . The publishing house was created in two cities at once - in Moscow and Leningrad.
Active participation in the organization and work of the publishing house was taken by Maxim Gorky , Samuel Marshak , Korney Chukovsky , Tamara Gabbe , Lidia Chukovskaya , Alexandra Lyubarskaya , Arkady Gaidar .
The first editor-in-chief of the publishing house was Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak , who gathered such authors as M. Ilyin , Boris Zhitkov , Victor Shklovsky , Solomon Lurie , L. Panteleev , Daniil Kharms , Alexander Vvedensky , Alexey Tolstoy , Eugene Schwartz , Matvey Bronstein and others. In 1933 , in the first year of Detgiz’s work, 168 titles of books with a total circulation of 7,744 thousand copies were published.
In 1931 and in 1937 the editors of the Leningrad Detizdat were defeated: some employees ( Lidia Chukovskaya ) were fired, others were arrested ( Tamara Gabbe ), shot, and died in custody ( Daniil Kharms , Alexander Vvedensky ).
This publishing house was called the "university" for illustrators of children's books. Through the lessons of the artist Vladimir Lebedev , hundreds of St. Petersburg artists passed, who later became masters of book graphics: Yuri Vasnetsov , Alexey Pakhomov , Nikolai Tyrsa , Vladimir Konashevich , Evgeny Charushin , Nina Noskovich , Valentin Kurdov , Maria Butrova and others ...
The publishing house has repeatedly changed its name: “DETGIZ” (1933) - “DETIZDAT” (1936) - “DETGIZ” (1941) - “Children's Literature” (1963).

- 2007 - T. Kryukova ’s book “Unlearned Lessons”, published by the publishing house, became the winner of the All-Russian competition for the best children and youth book “Scarlet Sails”.
